The Goal of the Project is to strengthen the civil society in Georgia and overcome the post-totalitarian mentality in population preventing the liberal democratic values to spread in the Georgian society. Problems targeted over the period of the programme include:
Ethnic nationalism and xenophobia including prejudices against neighboring nations, minorities inside the country and the wide-spread ethnic-discriminatory attitudes, gender discrimination including domestic violence, etc Thus, the programme implies starting a multy-functional network of synerizing strong teams of civil society actors that will systematically and professionally operate in selected urban centers especially in the high-risk zones to inform and educate local population.
This document was prepared by and constitutes one of the main working results of the project "Strengthening European partnerships for crisis prevention and response: Civil society peace-building round tables for Georgia". The project was initiated and financed within the framework of the European Union’s Instrument for Stability, set up to finance actions that strengthen the Union’s capacities for crisis prevention and crisis management throughout the world.

At the joint meeting of Mercy Corps and partners it was pointed out that despite certain number of participating women in the newly established cooperatives, they (women) have some kind of a passive role in regards to decision making and discussing the activities. It was noted that there was significant difference in the specifics of cooperative activities between Georgian and Armenian communities in regards to gender component, though such passivity was found out to be the characteristic feature for both communities.
Goals of the program Akhalkalaki Social and Marketing Linkages enable to be flexible and to react promptly on the direct needs of our target groups. Within the frameworks of the component of empowering and capacity building our organization – International Center on Conflict and Negotiation (ICCN) revised the intervention strategy and established new vision for priorities in September-October of last year. Our target audience was redefined together with the strategy to work with them.
Launched in 2005 and funded by the World Federalists Movement, the program aims at facilitating the establishment of an efficient coalition in the South Caucasus for ratification and implementation of Rome Statute, as well as building good understanding on the role of ICC in the protection of human rights.
The Human Rights Division works towards promoting a dialogue between minority and majority groups by organizing seminars and workshops. The topics covered during the workshops address sensitive issues such as the registration law of religious establishments, status of religious establishments and religious education in the secondary schools of Georgia.
